Ministerial mindfulness

Delighted to read this interview (http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2013/apr/07/zen-buddhism-nhs?INTCMP=SRCH) in The Guardian with Jon Kabat-Zinn – the ‘forefather’ of Mindfulness Based Approaches (MBAs) for health. What is particularly heartening is that he is being listened to – seriously, it would seem – by politicians and Downing Street policy advisers. This gives real hope that the government and the NHS will be adopting MBAs more widely in combatting a range of physiological and psychological illnesses and in promoting sustainable wellbeing. This would build on the significant step of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) including Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy in their recommended treatments for recurrent depression.
